Conservation & Restoration

Best organic food

We also conserve, repair, restore, and clean antique embroideries and family heirlooms such as embroidered official patches and embroidered wedding dresses.

We can breathe new life into old embroidered cheongsams and embroidered dragon robes, and remount and re-product embroideries such as embroidered screens and embroidered paintings and calligraphy.

Conservation

In our studio, we understand the importance of preserving the beauty and integrity of your treasured Chinese embroidery piece. To that end, we offer conservation services that focus on stabilizing the piece to prevent further damage or wear. Our services include surface cleaning, couching loose threads and stitches, or stabilizing holes and weak areas. In cases where the piece is particularly fragile, we may use conservation netting to protect it from further damage. We always adhere to the principle of reversibility, ensuring that our conservation work is in line with traditional Chinese embroidery practices.

Restoration

In restoring a piece of Chinese embroidery to its former glory, we may need to replace missing stitches or repair holes in the silk ground fabric. Our skilled staff at the Chinese Embroidery Institute are trained in the delicate art of reweaving silk fabrics to strengthen and repair any damage. We understand the importance of preserving the original materials and techniques used in traditional Chinese embroidery, and will work with care and precision to ensure that the restored piece retains its authenticity and beauty.

Reproduction

In some cases, it may be necessary to conserve and archive the original piece while also creating a reproduction. We can create a reproduction using authentic silk thread and the original colors as seen on the back of the item, or we can use existing faded colors to create a faithful reproduction. Additionally, we have the expertise to re-embroider any sections that may have been lost, worn away, or damaged, ensuring that the final piece is an accurate representation of the original.
