Double-Sided Embroidery Beginner’s Online Course Design

Course Overview

This course is designed for beginners to learn the traditional Chinese art of double-sided embroidery, using authentic tools, materials, and techniques. The course includes recorded video demonstrations, live explanations, post-class Q&A sessions, and a final exam to ensure that students master the essential skills of double-sided embroidery. Recorded videos will be played during the live sessions, and students will also have access to private online videos for review with a password after class. The total course fee is $800, and the material package is priced at $80. The first 10 students to complete payment will receive free shipping for the material package.

Course Structure

Module 1: Double-Sided Embroidery History and Background (Recorded) + Thread Preparation and Techniques

  • Content: The recorded video will introduce the history and cultural background of double-sided embroidery and demonstrate thread preparation and handling techniques.
  • Format: The video will be played and explained during the live session, and students can review the video afterward using a password-protected link.

Module 2: Tools + Needle Holding and Thread Splitting

  • Content: Learn the proper use of traditional Chinese embroidery tools, needle holding techniques, and thread splitting (silk separation).
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Master the techniques of holding needles and splitting threads to ensure precision and fine-quality materials.

Module 3: Brush Drawing Techniques + Paper Practice

  • Content: Learn how to use a traditional Chinese wolf-hair brush to draw patterns, and practice on rice paper.
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Accurately transfer patterns using traditional brush techniques.

Module 4: Basic Stitch Learning + Flat Cloth Practice

  • Content: Learn and practice the five essential stitches for double-sided embroidery: encroaching satin stitch (qiang zhen), shaded satin stitch (tao zhen), slanted satin stitch (chan zhen), straight satin stitch (zhi zhen), and running stitch (fengyanzhen). Practice these stitches on flat cloth.
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Through hands-on practice, master these five foundational stitches and enhance your ability to apply them on flat cloth.

Module 5: Silk Fabric Pattern Transfer + Starting Stitches

  • Content: Transfer the pattern onto silk fabric, learn the starting stitch techniques, and begin the embroidery process.
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Master the techniques of starting stitches and embroidery on silk fabric.

Module 6: Embroidery Practice

  • Content: Continue working on the design on silk fabric, focusing on fine details.
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Complete a complex double-sided embroidery project through continued practice.

Module 7: Final Exam – Embroidering a Peach Design

  • Content: Students will independently complete an embroidered peach design as the final exam project.
  • Duration: 2-3 hours live
  • Objective: Assess the student’s mastery of double-sided embroidery techniques.

Module 8: Teacher Feedback (Complimentary)

  • Content: The instructor will provide personalized feedback on each student’s project, offering suggestions for improvement.
  • Duration: 1 hour live
  • Objective: Use the feedback to further improve your embroidery skills.

Course Fees

  • Total Fee: $50 per hour, for a total of $800 (including 16 hours of live instruction and teacher feedback)
  • Material Fee: $80 (Students who do not require the material package may opt out of this fee.)
  • Shipping: Shipping for the material package is approximately $40. The first 10 students to complete payment will receive free shipping.

Material Package (Cost: $80)

  • 1 wolf-hair brush for pattern drawing
  • 2 special needles for double-sided embroidery
  • 1 sheet of A4 rice paper
  • 1 piece of 25 x 25 cm flat cloth (for practice)
  • 2 spools of colored cotton thread (for practice)
  • 1 piece of 25 x 25 cm silk fabric for double-sided embroidery
  • 1 bottle of black Chinese ink for pattern drawing
  • 8 spools of silk thread for double-sided embroidery

Payment Method

To enroll, students need to provide their PayPal account (email). We will send a payment link, and students can complete the payment through PayPal.
